Plot

Working plot - subject to change

Each alien civilisation (including Homo sapiens) have their own “hero” at each time period, who is hand-picked by the “forces”. Each force (gravity, electromagnetism, etc) has its own distinct persona and due to their power they’re constantly at risk of tearing the universe apart. The heroes are picked to repair the parts of the universe that are at breaking point (as well as going off on their own cool adventures) (and yes, a lot of this is a metaphor for events in regular human lives).

For the RPG Phase: Start as an astronaut (human) on a planet. Planets in the solar system you’re in are starting to be “disintegrated” (aka being moved, see the Star Sailors story) and you need to gather as much alien DNA as possible. You travel from planet to planet using a ship that you repair with the help of your new alien friends and once you get aliens from each of the 5 biospheres on each planet (with a shared history between all life in the ecosystems this is enough data to retrieve) you need to mine asteroids and other space anomalies to prepare for a jump to the Galactic Capital, Midgard, where you will bring the aliens for safekeeping and bring word of the destruction of planets (by sentient forces like gravity and electromagnetism).

Introduction post for game communities Hey guys, I've spent a few months working on a new project with my software development team and No Man's Sky is a really big component in this project. Basically, I'm trying to integrate Citizen Science directly into video games (sort of like Eve Online's Project Discovery, but as a part of the main game rather than a secondary storyline/minigame). I've found that there are heaps of people interested in science (whether it's space, bio, whatever) that might want to contribute or learn more - but if you aren't part of the industry (i.e. didn't study science at university) then it's sort of a walled-garden - it's hard to connect with anyone doing any work or even learn about your area of interest properly. Science magazines and other media formats are great but they're not always the most engaging, so I thought that video games would be a good way to Engage with interested people Teach these people concepts, studies and information about their area of interest Allow these people to contribute to relevant, important scientific research regardless of their background, job or location. This is a two-part process - Our own game, built with the Unity Game Engine and on top of our own game engine, Arcadia (which is also a "fork" of platforms like Facebook Games & Steam). Our game will be an open-world sci-fi game with tons of mini-games based on old Arcade(ia) games included Mods for games made by other manufacturers, like No Man's Sky (storylines, custom maps, and custom items) How will it work? Well, suffice it to say many interesting science projects have APIs and these can integrate with your favourite games using either Unity addressables (for Unity games) or plain mods. What's cool about this is we can even create a platform to share your items and resources between games (like Pokemon Home) using the in-game API and your accounts. We've started negotiating some official tie-ins with game studios of varying scales and have a little bit - not much - funding behind us. Since we're trying to bring science to the people without locking it behind a paywall, we've decided our project will be 100% open-source. If you're interested, drop me a PM on Facebook. I'm not going to fill this page up with links. -L
